| A tentative LJ epitaph |
[Jul. 6th, 2009|07:09 pm] |
Time flies. It's been four years since I graduated from college, moved to New York, and started this LJ. A year or so ago I stopped posting, and at some point I deleted many of the more personal entries. Most of my friends list is no longer active.
I never got comfortable blogging. I didn't want to blog anonymously, but I definitely didn't want to get too personal on the public Internet under my real name. The friends list is a useful compromise, but most of my friends don't have LJ accounts. I also wasn't interested in blogging on politics or my profession or other interests (minus the occasional snarky commentary), and LJ doesn't feel like the right place to do so anyway.
What will I do now? I'm not sure. I think it's important to write about your life, particularly if you have a poor episodic memory as I do, and I regret not having written more and destroying most of what I have written. But I don't feel inclined to blog. Perhaps I will return to my private journal from college. I like LJ, particularly with its friend lists and communities such as newyorkers, but in this age of Google perhaps Blogger would be a better choice in the future. In the meantime, this journal will remain as a monument to that part of my life. Take care.

Today I wore a horizontal striped polo. I'm pretty sure that while walking home from work someone yelled "Where's Waldo!" at me.
I haven't heard that one in quite some time, possibly in more than a decade. |

Random conversation in the elevator after my drum lesson:
Guy with artsy glasses: Are you having a good life? Me: Yeah, I'd say so. [pause] I hope you are, too. Guy: I thought I was. You've got to overcome those issues. Acting helps. Me: ... [elevator opens] Me: Well, good luck. Guy: Thanks. Have a good week. |

I like how I'm typing this on the same IKEA coffee table as the one I have at home. |

I've been up in New Hampshire for a couple days working for the Ron Paul campaign. New Hampshire is cold and snowy. Ron Paul 2008! |

In a couple weeks, I'll be leaving my job at Tower to join HBK. I'm not ready to reflect on this change at the moment, but needless to say, I have a lot of work ahead of me.
As luck would have it, a somewhat important email from my future boss made it just above my spam filter threshold. Thanks a lot, spammers. |

So tonight I went to this guy's book signing. I think it's really cool how he parlayed what sounds like very trying experiences into literary success, and used the Internet to make a name for himself.
The funniest part was when people got up to leave and one older woman said to another, "I was expecting this tough guy, but he's very personable." Imagine walking around with that kind of bias against you. |

We finally made it to Berkeley last night, and Justin and I flew back today. I return to my apartment to find the ceiling rotting with mold; apparently something's been leaking from above for the past week.
Just what I need. This is the worst time of year to find a new apartment. |

Our Vegas experience was rather limited. We were tired and dirty from Bryce Canyon, got in rather late, and went to a mediocre casino. I could have caught the Pussycat Dolls if I had gotten my act together, meh.
Right now we're in California approaching the LA area, after which we'll swing up the coast. Tomorrow night will see us in Zach's new apartment in Berkeley. |

Yesterday we set off west from Denver into Utah. Let me tell you, that stretch of I-70 has some amazing scenery, but it was terrifying at times and completely desolate at others.
Today we go to Bryce Canyon and then it's on to Vegas. Tomorrow, California. |

Yesterday we managed to make it to both the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore, which were awesome. Then we drove through parts of Wyoming with absolutely nothing for miles. Guess real estate prices are pretty low there. Finally, we made it to Denver where a very nice and generous MIT alum who knew Justin and Zach put us up.
Today it's on to Utah. Alas, we've cut out Yellowstone, but car problems have eaten up too much time. |
